Case Study

Assessing Attitudes about Climate Change & Energy Efficiency

Issue:

Private, non-profit organization dedicated to improving energy sustainability needed to assess the state of public attitudes about climate change and energy efficiency.

Approach:

Conducted a tracking study via phone and Web that surveyed over 3,000 households in nine Midwestern states to understand:

  • Whether concern for the climate could motivate the public to change energy practices;
  • Which climate-oriented policy measures the public was most likely to support; and
  • How the public perceived energy companies’ roles with respect to energy efficiency and climate change.

Results:

The study was continued an additional year and its reach expanded to all 50 states based on its success in gathering in-depth, actionable information.
